A dynamic, value-driven legal education and advocacy organisation is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Operations to lead its programs, events and operations. About the Role
This part-time leadership role is ideal for someone who thrives in a mission-led environment and enjoys balancing strategic thinking with operational delivery. You will oversee a suite of professional development programs while managing stakeholder relationships, compliance, governance and organisational growth.
You'll work closely with a volunteer committee and a small team of passionate professionals to ensure the organisation continues to deliver high quality, ethical and impactful initiatives across the legal sector.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Deliver and coordinate legal education programs and events
- Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies
- Manage budgets, reporting and organisational services
- Develop systems and policies to support ethical and efficient operations
Strategy & Governance
- Implement strategic plans aligned with access to justice and professional collegiality
- Report on operations, risks, finances and outcomes
- Support governance and risk management in a small organization setting
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build relationships across the legal profession, universities, judiciary and sector partners
- Represent the organisation in forums and consultations
- Oversee communications and support sponsorship development
People & Culture
- Mentor staff, volunteers and contractors
- Fosters a collaborative, inclusive and values-driven workplace
- Support recruitment, induction, and performance management
Fundraising & Sustainability
- Develop sponsorship proposals and secure funding for events and programs
- Maintain strong relationships with donors and supporters
- Balance affordability with financial sustainability
About You
- Experience in or understanding of the legal sector
- Prove leadership in operations, governance and stakeholder management
- Strong communication, budgeting and compliance skills
- High emotional intelligence and ethical leadership
- Tech-savvy and confident in reporting and systems
- Experience with volunteers and committees (desirable)
- Backgrounds in events or conferences (desirable)
This role may be well-suited to professionals with leadership experience in legal operations, including those who have served as General Managers, Practice Managers or Legal Operations Managers.
